UPDATE ON UNN EMAIL

OFFICE OF THE INFORMATION OFFICER
STUDENTS' UNION GOVERNMENT
UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA, NSUKKA

Greetings Great Lions and Lionesses,

The university earlier announced her resolution to handle all correspondence to and from students and staff through the university emails. Thus, in communicating scholarship and empowerment opportunities, results and online course registrations, etc. your UNN email address is the only channel.
We at the Students' Union Government are in full support of this move by the university administration and we have also gone a step ahead to get official email addresses for all the executive offices. We therefore encourage as many as have not activated theirs to visit the MIS Unit of the university to do so as soon as possible. What is more,

UPDATE ON STUDENT IDENTITY CARD

It has come to our notice that due to some students have relaxed their efforts towards securing the university identity card. This is probably because the grace period given for the data capturing exercise towards the issuance of the card was exceeded by the university as a result of our effort at the Students' Union Government to make things easy for the students. On this note I wish to

FOLLOW-UP ON COURSE REGISTRATION

Last two weeks I told us all of the response from the Secretary to the Registrar which states that they are working on the issues tabled before them as regards online course registration. On Friday I made another visit to the Registrar's office and the secretary who I met there said, "It is a global issue; we cannot deal with them all at the same time, thus, we are working on all the issues before us, when we are done, ALL students will be able to register their courses". What this implies is that students may continue trying their course registration from time to time. Some may be successful while others may not, depending on when the issues are resolved.

Next I asked him about the N500.00 penalty for late registration if students will still be made to pay

AND THE GOOD WORKS CONTINUE…

While we remain hopeful that the street lights in the university community will become functional very soon, I am pleased to announce to Lions and Lionesses that the contract for the repairs of ALL boreholes, taps, water channels and overhead tanks has been awarded and the contractor is already on campus to start off as soon as possible. What this means is that

The Leader of the Lion Republic is a Year Older Today!!!

Who is he that speaks and it comes to pass when the Lord has not spoken? Is it not from the mouth of the Most High that both good and evil proceed?

When he came up with the concept of "Chukwu says…", I thought it was always him speaking till I considered the Chukwu in his name. It's been some weeks working side by side with you as a co-comrade in the aluta struggle and I can boldly say, "I thank Chukwu who made our paths cross".

The Lord has spoken, and His words have come to pass in your life. by His words He has made you the President,

EVERYDAY FOR THE THIEF…!!!

It was another unlucky day for a suspected thief who visited Franco Republic in the Nsukka Campus of the Den of LIons, specifically Alvan and Eni-Njoku Halls at about 3:00am on Friday, May 13, 2016. Students were aroused when we heard, "Stop there! Identify yourself!!..." and before long, a mob had gathered around a young boy and there was no waste of time before the punches rained on him. Containing the mob was not an easy task as we tried ascertaining the identity of the boy. The student who stopped him said he came out his room to ease himself when he saw someone walk into the hostel through one of the streets around it. He carefully stalked him for a while as he

PROPOSED PROTEST AGAINST THE KILLINGS BY FULANI HERDSMEN

RESOLUTION OF THE STUDENT UNION GOVERNMENT

Rising from a meeting of all the SUG Officials which included members of the Executive Council, Senators and Members, House of Representatives from across faculties and departments, the Government decided to address the proposed protest thus:

"We condemn the killings of innocent, peaceful and harmless citizens in the strongest words. We grieve with the families of the victims of the attack and pray that such barbaric act does not occur again." As regards the proposed protest scheduled to hold tomorrow, Tuesday, May 2nd, 2016, the SUG decided to distance herself from the protest in all aspects. First, the fact that the protest is not holding within the university community makes it beyond the reach of the Union. Second, considering the effect of mob action, it is always very difficult to control a protest no matter how peaceful it is intended to be. When things go wrong, it will be difficult to give account of those who have participated in the protest. This spells a great danger for as many as will be embarking on the protest. We thus advise ALL Lions and Lionesses to stay away from the proposed protest for the sake of safety and security.
However, since we cannot force anyone against his/her will, it is important we state categorically that any student of the university who joins the proposed protest does so at his/her own risk, and the SUG will not be responsible for it.
The meeting was aimed at uniting the various arms of the Student Union Government and to form a working synergy amongst the various arms. The Principal Officers of the Union reiterated their resolution to work together with one another thus uniting the three houses in one course: The Welfare of the Students. There were many suggestions, opinions and reactions to issues of importance to the students and they were well-treated while those in attendance charged one another to participate fully in the government instead of leaving it for those in certain arms of the government. The needed change begins with each and every one of us, and we need not sit silently waiting for others to do it for us.

SECURITY
The security of the university community has remained under threat as some bad boys have taken it upon themselves to attack harmless students on campus at night, especially around Lawn Tennis Court and the Stadium. It has degenerated to a daily occurrence and working with the security department, the Student Union Government is doing its best to apprehend and bring these hoodlums to book. We hereby warn as many as partake in this nefarious act to desist from such as it no mercy will be shown to anyone caught in this act.
Also, we wish to advise every Lion and Lioness to be security conscious. Stay away from the Lawn Tennis Court at night; instead of passing through the stadium, use the expressway for safety. Other security measures should be taken to ensure you play your role while the SUG and the university administration play theirs. Our street lights will become functional again sooner than we anticipate, and this will help foster the level of security at night.
