PROPOSED PROTEST AGAINST THE KILLINGS BY FULANI HERDSMEN

RESOLUTION OF THE STUDENT UNION GOVERNMENT

Rising from a meeting of all the SUG Officials which included members of the Executive Council, Senators and Members, House of Representatives from across faculties and departments, the Government decided to address the proposed protest thus:

"We condemn the killings of innocent, peaceful and harmless citizens in the strongest words. We grieve with the families of the victims of the attack and pray that such barbaric act does not occur again." As regards the proposed protest scheduled to hold tomorrow, Tuesday, May 2nd, 2016, the SUG decided to distance herself from the protest in all aspects. First, the fact that the protest is not holding within the university community makes it beyond the reach of the Union. Second, considering the effect of mob action, it is always very difficult to control a protest no matter how peaceful it is intended to be. When things go wrong, it will be difficult to give account of those who have participated in the protest. This spells a great danger for as many as will be embarking on the protest. We thus advise ALL Lions and Lionesses to stay away from the proposed protest for the sake of safety and security.
However, since we cannot force anyone against his/her will, it is important we state categorically that any student of the university who joins the proposed protest does so at his/her own risk, and the SUG will not be responsible for it.
The meeting was aimed at uniting the various arms of the Student Union Government and to form a working synergy amongst the various arms. The Principal Officers of the Union reiterated their resolution to work together with one another thus uniting the three houses in one course: The Welfare of the Students. There were many suggestions, opinions and reactions to issues of importance to the students and they were well-treated while those in attendance charged one another to participate fully in the government instead of leaving it for those in certain arms of the government. The needed change begins with each and every one of us, and we need not sit silently waiting for others to do it for us.

SECURITY
The security of the university community has remained under threat as some bad boys have taken it upon themselves to attack harmless students on campus at night, especially around Lawn Tennis Court and the Stadium. It has degenerated to a daily occurrence and working with the security department, the Student Union Government is doing its best to apprehend and bring these hoodlums to book. We hereby warn as many as partake in this nefarious act to desist from such as it no mercy will be shown to anyone caught in this act.
Also, we wish to advise every Lion and Lioness to be security conscious. Stay away from the Lawn Tennis Court at night; instead of passing through the stadium, use the expressway for safety. Other security measures should be taken to ensure you play your role while the SUG and the university administration play theirs. Our street lights will become functional again sooner than we anticipate, and this will help foster the level of security at night.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW

OFFICE OF THE INFORMATION OFFICER
STUDENT UNION GOVERNMENT
UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA, NSUKKA
THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW!!!

1. Re: POST UTME SCREENING DATE 2016
Our attention has been drawn to an online publication of a date for the 2016 post-UTME screening. It is of great importance that I refute the authenticity of such a post. Ordinarily, I would have remained calm till Tuesday when I will be able to confirm that date from the admissions office of the university, but then, a careful look at the dates listed in the timetable for the screening makes it clear that it is an edited copy of last year's screening timetable. Another pointer to the suspicious nature of the post is the fact that the mode of payment as stated therein is E-TRANZACT which has ceased to be in use since the enforcement of the TSA Policy by the federal government.
Whatever the originators of such a post wishes to achieve is difficult to comprehend. However, since it is our duty to keep you up-to-date with the right information, I wish to plead with all Lions and Lionesses that you act carefully as regards such information. We have promised to serve you well in the area of information, and it will be a failure on our part if we watch while you get confused by some mischief makers. Two major sources of information for the university community in general remain www.unn.edu.ng (the university website) and www.unnmaxinfo.blogspot.com (the SUG Blog). Please if the news is not on either of these; disregard it except for posts I or members of the Information Crew 2016/2017 who will be unveiled soon make. Also, for prompt clarification on any controversial post or information, please call 08023139377.

2. Re: ONLINE REGISTRATION OF COURSES
We are not unaware of the inability of students to register their courses online due to so many errors on the part of the university's ICT Unit of the university among other issues. In reaction to this, I visited the Registrar's office to see if there will be an extension of the deadline for course online registration and the response was favourable. According to the staff, many students had already written through their HODs complaining about the same and so the unit is working on it. Once it is rectified, a new schedule for course online registration will be announced.
However, the aspect of N500.00 penalty for late registration could not, as at the time of the visit, yield any response as neither the registrar nor his secretary was on seat. I therefore wish to appeal with us to patiently await the response from both the Registrar and the ICT Unit. As soon as we have any information on this, we will update you promptly.

3. PERSONAL
I have not been as constant as I would love to online. It think it necessary that I let you all know that according to the new mandate given me by you all, I now have a duty to all students, online as well as offline. While we wait for the unveiling of the new Information Crew, I will continue to do most of the works myself. So, when I am not online, please bear with me as I am probably attending to some persons who do not have the privilege to be online or seeking answers to some questions already on my table. We are determined to keep improving in our services to you on regular basis.

APPRECIATION AND REQUEST

Tons of thanks to you for your support, prayers, encouragement, et al through this period. From long ago you were there, unshaking and firm despite the challenges and the pressure from all sides. I am very grateful and indebted to work harder than I have done.
I have learnt a lot of lessons from this year's electoral process, chief of which is to keep your promises no matter what. This you have taught me by standing for me even when it was painful and shameful. Thus far the Lord has led us to victory and the task before us is beginning to take shape. One promise I make you is that I will never disappoint you.
The task of rebranding the Union and its image is quite a huge one, thus, I will still run back to you from time to time when issues arise or when I get confused. Also, due to the fact that (uche otu onye adigh ezu), I will appreciate it if you can feed me with suggestions of what you think should be done where. On the other hand, in order to foster concentration, I wish to seek your permission to exit some whatsapp and facebook groups as delimiting the number of groups I belong to will help me focus on the few while fellow students continue the work of sharing and rebroadcasting. For the groups affected on facebook, you may join our official SUG UNN facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/sugunn/?ref=bookmarks ) or like our official facebook page (https://web.facebook.com/unnmaxinfo/?ref=bookmarks). For those on whtsapp, feel free to chat me up so you may be added to the UNN Whatsapp groups I admin for effective communication. We are working seriously at innovative ideas to make
However, the new ELECTRONIC INFORMATION MANAGER will continue from where I stopped but I will ensure the work on that aspect is better than it is at the moment. Thus, while I promise you continuous prompt, accurate and up-to-date information online while we work hard to ensure that students who are not online are not left behind. Other promises I have made in my manifesto will be fulfilled before the end of our tenure. You may request for a copy of it if you so wish.
Finally, I wish to solicit your constructive criticism. Be free to tell us where we are going wrong and we will be willing to accept our wrongs and correct them. Our Union will be better by God's grace. He has given us a family both in the executive and legislative arm. For me, the executive is the nuclear family while the legislative is the extended and we all, united in ONE VOICE and ONE COURSE will ensure your welfare is given utmost priority.
Thank you and God bless!!!
