SUG President, UNN Suspended


Rising from its sitting on Friday, 15th May, 2015 at Student Union Building Hall, the House of Representatives, Student Union Government, University of Nigeria, Nsukka resolved that the President of the Union be suspended from office following petitions and allegations of misconduct against him while a panel set up by the House of Representatives investigates the matter.
According to a memo circulated by the House of Representatives, and signed by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ogbu Magnus Ncheteka and the Clerk of the House, Hon. Victor Emenike Chibuezeudo., “…following a motion to investigate the allegations borne

in the notice which was duly passed by over a two-third majority of members present and voting, the Students Union Government’s President is hereby suspended from office pending conclusion of investigations by a panel set up by the House of Representatives”.

Also, the House resolved that rules and regulations should be unified in all female and male Hostels, and that payment of fines and levies should henceforth be authenticated only with an SUG receipt.  Furthermore, the House of Representatives also resolved to investigate issues of financial irregularities in Eyo-Ita Hostel.

Finally, a Joint Task Force Committee recommended by the Director of Transport was ratified and fully appointed as the Branch Union’s Joint Task Force Committee. Members of the committee will henceforth functions in the said capacity to ensure that, among other things, the following stipulated shuttle prices are adhered to.
Buses shall charge forty Naira (N40.00) from Nsukka park to the University.
Taxis shall charge fifty Naira (N50.00) from Nsukka park to the University
N30 and N20 as fares shall be charged by taxis and buses respectively within the campus
For buses: from 2nd gate directly to Agric/Awolowo hall shall be N30.00
For taxis: from the 2nd gate directly to ICT shall be N40.000
This agreement between the Director for Transport, the House of Representatives and the Chairman, UNN- Shuttle Operators is subject to change as soon as the need arises owing to the circumstances that led to it.

In conclusion, the House of Representatives reiterated her commitment to discharging her legislative duties with integrity and with respect to the sacred trust bestowed on her as stated in the constitution.
