Based on the fact that government is meant to be a representative of
the people, it is important leaders are found worthy as credible men
whose words are their bonds. Somehow, I stumbled on this ALL-IMPORTANT
document and decided to share it with the permission of His
Excellency, The President of the Student Union Government, University
of Nigeria, Nsukka, Comr. Orji Peter Ekene. It is the inaugural speech
delivered by the president on the day he and other newly-elected
officials of the government were sworn in. Most interesting are the
promises which are what students should hope for and expect of the
current administration.
On my own, I have extracted some points worthy of note and have
outlined them below. It is necessary, however, that you take your time
to go through the whole script yourself to see what to expect of the
current administration, and to know the yardstick with which to
condemn or commend. Below are areas of concentration I was able to
extract:
*Okeke/Isa-Kaita Toilet/Sewage Tank
*Lighting up the hostels
*Flood Lights for the school community
*Lectures on capacity building
*Ladies Tournament
*Stopping the illegal collection of money for receipt conversion by faculties
*Resisting indiscriminate bank charges and outrageous shuttle fares
*Provision of water in the hostels
*Fixing of water tanks both ground and overhead
*Students week and cultural week
Now you may read the rest yourself.

AS THE PRESIDENT, STUDENT UNION GOVERNMENT, UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA,
NSUKKA. AT PRINCESS ALEXANDRA AUDITORIUM.
PROTOCOL
The Vice Chancellor
The DVC Academics
DVC Administration,
Other Principle offices of the school
Dean of Student Affairs,
Deans of faculties
My Academic Adviser
The chief Security Officer,
Head of Departments
My Lord Spiritual
Officials of the outgoing SUG
Gentlemen of the Press
Friends and Guests of the University
Ladies and Gentle Men
Great Lions and Lionesses
I feel so honoured and greateful to God for giving me this stage as
the newly elected and sworn-in president of the SUG-UNN. I am humbled
at your optimum support, love and confidence which you have posed in
me inspite of my inadequacies and limitations. You are people who have
defied all sort of divisive and primitive ethnic/clans sentiments. You
have proven again that leadership roles be undertaken by merit based
on capability and efficiency. This is a good development and also a
wave of hope for our dream ONE NIGERIA, ONE IGBO Nation.
Similarly, I do not see myself as the best candidate but one whom
God's Grace has shown Luck. I am the lucky one and you can call me the
lucky Pedro.
To me, all the contestants were good. Precious I admire your fluency
with words, Celestine I call you the Lion and Odessey my fellow exman
you are wonderful, and all fit for the Job. Though My friendliness,
resilience, perseverance, integrity and efficiency, sacrifice and
selflessness has placed me at a vantage position, but more
importantly, your actions at the polls just legitimized and validated
those attributes.
The student Union is the student's representative body working to
promote the academic, welfare, social and wellbeing of the students.
It is supposedly meant to give a balanced and healthy representation
to students both on Local/chapter and National issues; Not forgetting
that it is a non politicized body which often provides the spring
board to attaining a greater height in the circular politics. Today,
the reverse is the case. I am sure you know the rest of the story.
I am the renewed hope and change agent who is bent on pragmatic
leadership. On my part, all is set to fix Isa Kaita toilet end; to
light up the hostels, flood light would be requested for; plans are in
place to bring in professionals to give us capacity building lecturer.
As I had promised Agbebites. Ladies, are your Kits ready for Lioness
tournament? Please you can now start your training. I promised that I
shall bring to the attention of Vice-Chancellor the illegal collection
of money for receipt conversion-some pay up to 2100 and above it is
not done in college of veterinary medicine where am coming from why
social science and education?. We shall also work on the issue of
indiscriminate bank charges and shuttle fares-all these thing are
exploitation on grand style. This nonsense must stop. I won't forget
to always see to the provision of water in the hostels, fixing of
water tanks both ground overhead, of which the Administration is
working on them already. Activities are in top gear to give the
students a fun-filled students and cultural week. The one you have not
experienced before.
While it is not our intention to stir and sow the seeds of discord or
to go on violent protests or strike actions , that may lead to the
closure of our school and ultimately disrupt the school calendar
however, we shall remain resolute and resilient in demanding for our
right; we shall reject and repel any acts of intimidation of any kind
from anyone. Let me state it clearly that, shuttle drivers should
desist from harassing the students. Perhaps, it is important I send a
note of warning to them to stop the indiscriminate shuttle fares and
embrace the approved and regulated arrangement agreed by the school,
SUG and the shuttle union.
I want use this medium to commiserate with occupants Okpara 121 hostel
for the loss of properties and valuables as a result of fire incidence
that occurred Monday, 2nd February 2015, more importantly my
appreciation goes to the student of the political science who helped
to put the fire under control, before the arrival of men of the fire
services department. I salute your boldness but there is a but.
To my team mates I had always promised you that we shall all do these
together. Because our people says that A tree does not make a forest.
To God Almighty, the omnipotent and omniscient we owe our victory. I
will however like to acknowledge and thank everyone that contributed
in one way or the other to our success. To Chief , Rev. Fr Dr Aloy
Orjinta, Dr Eze, Bro Odera I say a big thank you. I thank also in no
small measure, The council of faculty presidents like Hon OKECHUKWU

Now you be the judge. At the expiration of their tenure, the officials
of this government will give account to the students what became of
the promises made both during campaigns and after their victory at the
polls. While we wait to for the fulfillment of these promises, it is
important we also learn as men and women in the academic environment
that one day, posterity will either commend or condemn us and we will
be ONLY REMEMBERED BY WHAT WE HAVE DONE.
