UNN GRADUATE AWAITING NYSC CALL-UP MURDERED IN UGHELLI

A 32-year-old University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) Mechanical Engineer graduate awaiting his posting for the mandatory one year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr. Eugine Ujayikre Ighobesuvwo, was on Tuesday night reportedly murdered in cold blood by unknown persons in his one-room apartment at No. 20, 'B' Otobo Street, Ughelli, Delta State.
An eyewitness said that the hoodlums numbering over 10 surrounded the compound between 12.00 and 1.00 o'clock mid night, smashed the door leading to Eugine's apartment with their legs and other dangerous instruments. The hoodlums were said have been armed also with gun "and woke him up from the bed and as he was begging them not to terminate his life, they ordered him to lie down stack naked, and at a very close range blew his head open with a gun". Late Eugine was seen lying in a pool of his own blood dead. Some expended empty cartridges were seen on the floor beside his corpse. Other items found there include
a hammer and a sharp screw driver, also believed to have been used on him before the gunshot. Late Eugine's sister, Elohor, described her late brother as an easy going man and a guitarist who is married to his musical equipment as an instrumentalist. The entire people living in the compound have all deserted the area for the fear of police arrests.
Meanwhile, at press time, all efforts to speak to the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ughelli Police Division 'A', Mr. Galadima, proved abortive as he was said to be out on official patrol but sources close to his office confirmed the incidence and added that police visited the scene of the crime, recovered some exhibits and as well deposited the corpse in the Government Hospital mortuary for autopsy. The source emphasised that investigation has already begun into the matter.
